The Seattle PI is now reporting that Microsoft is "supporting Bungie's desire to return to its independent roots, while continuing to invest in the 'Halo' entertainment property." Not many specifics included in the article, but it appears that Microsoft will continue to hold a significant stake in the gaming studio.
